The photos are in keeping with how Universal has been promoting the film in official cast photos and interview. It’s a big-budget action film in the best of Hollywood fantasy tradition, and one that embraces the dark, edgy side of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale.
At Comic-Con 2011, producers Palek Patel and Joe Roth talked about their approach to the movie in just those terms. Patel claimed the Grimm Brothers would be proud of the film’s approach, the L.A. Times reported, while Roth said he wants to the movie to be “like ‘Lord of the Rings’ in terms of scope and size.”
The official synopsis for the movie:
In the epic action-adventure “Snow White and the Huntsman,” Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, “Thor”) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.
The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of “Alice in Wonderland,” producer Sam Mercer (“The Sixth Sense”) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.
The film stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Noah Huntley, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham.
“Snow White and the Huntsman” will be released to movie theatres June 1, 2012.
When the “Snow White and the Huntman” is released, Pittsburgh movie-goers can see the film at the AMC Loews Waterfront 22, with tickets available for online purchase at Fandango, as well as at SouthSide Works Cinema and Waterworks Cinema 10.
