Every article about New City Cincinnati – this far – has highlighted the uniqueness of the new church. Two elements that have been mentioned again and again are diversity and creativity. These two are interwoven in the vision and the mission of the church.
In addition to the vision and mission, and intentionally pursuing diversity and creativity, there are also certain values that every member of the congregation will be expected to reflect and to practice. The preliminary brochure calls them “Core Values” and here is a quote there from
· “The characteristics and practices that everyone at New City considers important, worth working toward, becoming, and walking out”:
There are nine core values – kind of a reflection of what every church member aspires to:
Intercession: Everyone will be involved in the ministry of prayer.
Mission: Everyone participates in mission work.
Generosity: As a fruit of the Spirit, every member will practice generosity. It is in giving that we receive.
Reconciliation: Everyone is reconciled and united with God and one another.
Justice: Everyone cares and pursues justice for all.
Transformation: Everyone changes.
Creativity: Everyone is innovative.
Destiny: Everyone is called.
Zoë – or Life: Everyone matters and everyone is blessed.
These values are, of course, biblically based and, again, quoted more or less verbatim from New City Cincinnati’s preliminary brochure. We will continue to expound them in detail in future articles.
