Sony Pictures is currently in the middle of closing a deal to create a film franchise based on the popular Assassin’s Creed video game series, according to media reports. Ubisoft Motion Pictures, which launched back in May, said that it was looking to work with a film company on various movies based on its most popular video game franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.
The film division is headed by former Europacorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet with former Walt Disney Studios France executive Jean de Rivieres heading marketing and promotion. Film news publication Variety is reporting that Sony Pictures is in final negotiations with Ubisoft’s movie branch to land the film rights to Assassin’s Creed. Sony Pictures also has a number of other movies in the works, based on video game franchises. It bought the rights to the Infamous franchise back in 2009, and most recently revealed that it is working on an Uncharted movie.
