Okay friends, it’s time to share my absolute favorite dog-friendly event of the year! Chicago Botanic Garden’s very own Spooky Pooch Parade!
Why is this my favorite event? Because there’s generally hundreds of dogs (I kid you not) and they’re all festive! Even people get in on it too!
I heard about this event from a friend at dog training school when Logan took her very first class. Every year since then, I’ve made the trek out and had a blast! You can’t even imagine how many dogs in costume you’ll see. Plus there’s a few vendors tables, some non-profits drop by, and there’s a ton of activities.
The best part: Kids line the pathway of the parade ogling at every dog. There’s a trick or treating party for kids after the dogs leave, so some parents decide to come early just to see all the dogs! (Yes – you don’t need a dog to have fun at this event! There’s plenty to go around)
Here’s the details:
When: This Saturday
Where: Chicago Botanic Gardens, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe
Time: 1-3pm, Registration begins at 1
Cost: $20 for parking, $20 per dog
Notes: This event replaced the Reindog Christmas parade, since it was always too cold to have a good turnout. However, in the years that I’ve attended, they’ve always had a ton of dogs, so it seemed to be a smart move. And please know – your dog will have a good time, regardless of his/her temperament. When we brought Logan, she had just started training and still was very shy of other dogs. She had a great time and it helped her immensely with socialization.
