My “Spotlight on Success” is about Maria Pascucci; a former frazzled college perfectionist turned award-winning author, speaker, leader and change-maker before her 30th birthday. She is fast becoming the “calm” voice for a new generation of high achieving college women leaders and young female professionals around the world. Her book Campus Calm University won a gold medal in the International Independent Publisher Book Awards, and has been called, “groundbreaking, refreshing and as calming as a cup of peppermint tea, or an extension on that term paper due tomorrow morning.” She is the creator of the forthcoming Campus LeadHer Success Kit with a Fall 2011 release date. Below, please find our interview between Constance M. Drew, NY Women’s Business Examiner (CD) and Maria Pascucci (MP), Founder & President, Campus Calm™.
CD: Briefly describe your business
MP: Campus Calm is leadership development and empowerment company thatteaches resilience to college women leaders and young female professionals.
As my company’s leader, I strive to serve as a magnetic force of inspiration to teach the nation that “Healthy, Resilient Women Lead.”
We speak from the power of personal experience to empower women to overcome their personal and private barriers to leadership:
Ø Perfectionism – those feelings of not being ‘good enough’ no matter how much we try to accomplish, or how ‘perfect’ we appear on paper – which all-too-often can lead to…
Ø Feeling Overwhelmed
Ø Sleep Difficulties
Goal: A healthier life with positive strategies to rise above stress and lead with resilience.
CD: Any awards, mentions, achievements to highlight?
MP: My first book University was awarded a gold medal in the 13th annual International Independent Publisher Book Awards. We will soon be releasing our new product called the “Campus LeadHer Success Kit,” which empowers young women to take charge of their health, time, money, confidence and careers so they are equipped to be the lead-hers we need them to be.
CD: Why did you decide to start your business?
MP: In 2001, I graduated summa cum laude from college with two majors, a minor and two part-time jobs. I also graduated with anxiety-induced health problems, and had a panic attack during a final exam. I survived. Now I’m on a mission: to spread a dose of “campus calm” to rising women leaders world-wide so they can lead with resilience.
CD: Who is your “Target” audience?
MP: College women leaders and young female professionals; clients are the colleges, companies and professional women activists that want to help develop the next generation of women leaders. We typically work with Student Affairs departments on college and university campuses, especially Leadership Development and Student Activities, as well as Counseling Services and Orientation. We are collaborating with the American Association of University Women AAUW.org and will be introduced to their 500 College/University partners nationwide.
CD: What is the one “nugget” of advice you would give to other Business Owners?
MP: Do what you love, play to your strengths; invest in the mentors that are right for you and the money will follow. As your platform grows, so does your capacity to serve others.
