Stoney’s Pub is not Irish, but it’s just as good as. Located in North Wilmington, Stoney’s is managed by Mike Stone (or Stoney as everyone loving calls him). Mike is originally from Britain and serves all the favorites that his “Mum” made at home. The Pub is small and cozy but very busy, so it is best to call for a reservation. Dress code is what Mike calls causal chic as well as Jeans and T-shirts. The only exception to that rule is on those very specially occasions that require kilts.
The menu has all the wonderful favorites that are desired by the British, Scottish, and Irish Americans that frequent Stoney’s. Menu items such as fish and chips, bangers and mash, steak and kidney pies, shepherd’s pie, bridies, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are specialties of the house. For special occasions, when Stoney’s host the annual Scottish Burn’s Night, there is also Haggis on the menu. For St. Patrick’s Day, Stoney’s ensure that a delicious plate of corned beef and cabbage is on the menu. Also on those nights, bagpipes will play all the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland.
Stoney’s has a full bar with over 50 single malt Scotch whisky’s, including Jameson’s Irish whiskey. There is also Guinness, Smethwick, Bass and Stongbow Cider on draft, as well as a long list of British and American bottled beers available. For the connoisseur of Scotch whisky’s, Stoney’s offers scotch tastings several times during the year.
If you are a rugby or soccer fan, then Stoney’s is the place to watch the games. There are TV’s that televised British soccer and rugby matches as well as a few of the local football and baseball games. Stoney’s also has Darts and video games available.
Upcoming events for October and November include Halloween, Guy Fox Day, and St Andrews Night.
