From a day time sunbathing to a perfect evening sunset, Lido Key is one of the most beautiful tropical islands for a vacation paradise. The barrier island is off west of Sarasota, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico.
The powdery white sand beaches on the Gulf side of the island are perfect for relaxing in the sun; enjoy beach activities including biking, jogging, walking, fishing, boating, swimming and shelling. Lido Beach. With lifeguards on duty, your family can enjoy swimming in the clear blue ocean or in the heated swimming pool near the bathhouse area. There are outside showers, restrooms, ATM machine, gift shop, recreation room, volleyball court, playground equipments and beach umbrella and chair rentals available. The concessions have food, drinks and ice cream for sale with an outdoor seating area. There are handicapped accessible observation decks and beach wheelchairs available for special needs visitors. Lido Beach is .5 mile in length located at west of the island on Ben Franklin Drive with a parking lot of 400 spaces.
North Lido Beach. Locating on the north west of the island, North Lido Beach offers a quieter place for soaking up the sun. With no lifeguard on duty, the half of mile beach is popular for visitors without young children. From St. Armands Cirlce, drive west to the end of John Ringling Boulevard, the small parking lot is located on the right end. Parking spaces are also available along the streets with beach accesses.
South Lido Park. Surrounding by the Gulf of Mexico, Sarasota Bay, Big Pass and Brushy Bayou, the South Lido Park is located on the southern tip of Lido Key. It provides spectacular views of downtown Sarasota skyline. This park is the ideal place for a family fun time at the beach. It features a .3 mile beach with picnic tables and benches on the soft white sand overlooking watersports on the bay. The picnic areas which shaded by Australian Pines, have tables, cooking grills, playground equipments, volleyball court, observation decks, restrooms and parking. The nature and kayak trails are also located on north of the park.
Where to stay. From luxury hotels and condominium rentals to affordable inns and motels, you will experience a warm hospitality while staying at Lido Key. Many beachfront resorts are located along Ben Franklin Drive including The Ritz-Carlton, Lido Beach Resorts, Helmsley Sandcastle, Lido Towers Condominiums, Holiday Inn and Coquina on the Beach. Most hotels are offering wedding packages for paradise weddings on the beach.
Shopping and dining. St. Armands Circle offers an exciting place of shopping, dining and services. With more than 130 stores, you will find elegant boutiques, gift shops, books, wine stores, galleries, footwear, beachwear, ice cream shops and much more throughout the circle. For dining experience, enjoy American standard food at Blue Dolphin and the fabulous seafood at Crab & Finn or international delighting tastes at Columbia Restaurant and Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse. The surrounding park in the middle of St. Armands Circle has lush tropical plants and courtyards with sculpting designs for a warm international atmosphere. Benches are laid throughout for relaxing sittings.
Attractions. Mote Marine Aquarium offers exhibits of marine life and eco-boat tours of Sarasota Bay. It is located one mile north of St. Armands Circle in City Island. If you have passion for art, visit Ringling Museum of Art for its finest collections of masterpiece paintings and sculptures by European, American and Asian old artists. Sarasota Classic Car Museum also displays over 100 oldest cars spanning over 100 years. And for the joy of gardening, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens offers a 9.5-acre bayfront garden featuring more than 20,000 tropical plants.
