With Elyse gone, Ozzy will have to decide where he stands – will he be a team player or go rogue?
Keith says they need to put it behind them and unite as a tribe and win. Ozzy tells the camera that they had a good thing going, but now there’s no trust. Ozzy announces to the tribe that he’s a free agent – basically declaring that it’s him versus them. Whitney tells him that the vote wasn’t against him. Ozzy disagrees. Dawn calls him out and says he’s withholding information, too. Ozzy blurts out that he has the idol. He also says they’re forgetting the other side of the game – Redemption Island. Keith tells him if he wants to go there, to just let them know.
The next day, Ozzy is still sulking, and the rest of the tribe isn’t buying it. The tribe was expecting him to apologize, instead he’s running off to the other by himself.
At Upolu, Coach is still celebrating. They have food; he has an idol. Coach talks about having the idol and not telling Brandon about it. He says he knows that Brandon will feel betrayed at some point, but he’s a Hantz and he can’t quite get past it. Coach talks about how he and Brandon have talked about playing the game as Christian men, and he asks if withholding information is lying. Coach decides it’s a gray area.
Brandon finds a clue to the idol and starts on a search to find the idol…like a maniac! Coach is torn, but he can’t quite get past the fact that Brandon is related to Russell. Kudos to the editors for the fade of Brandon walking and turning into Russell.
At the Redemption Island duel, Christine has a mini meltdown saying Redemption Island can break you. Elyse and Christine will play Survivor Shuffle Board. They each have four pucks – the last one with a puck on the board will win and stay in the game. When Rick offers Christine some encouragement, she flips him off. This seems to motivate Christine as she suddenly has more life. Christine jumps out to a lead after Elyse knocks in one of her own pucks. Elyse battles back to tie the game, but Christine will not be denied. She wins her fourth duel.
Rick and Sophie share with the tribe that there is no chance Christine will ever come back to the tribe if she should make it back in.
At Upolu, Edna talks about trying to get herself into the alliance by staying close to Coach. It seems to be working since Coach tells her that Mikayla would be the next to go – not her.
At Savaii, coming down from his tantrum, Ozzy finally realizes he’s made a huge mistake with the attitude. He realizes that he can’t get to the end on his own. Ozzy goes to Keith and makes amends. Ozzy regrets telling them about the idol. After he talks to Keith, he apologizes to the tribe. Jim isn’t necessarily buying it though, knowing that this change comes from necessity not desire. He’ll take it though. Jim says Ozzy before the merge helps him win challenges and after the merge is a bigger target.
Time for immunity and reward. The teams have to divide. Part of each team will assemble a wheelbarrow and then pick up two loads of coconuts and dump them in a pit. The remaining team members must take apart the wheelbarrow to build a sling shot and shoot the coconuts at targets. The winning team gets immunity and an excursion to a natural rock waterslide and a picnic. Upolu has an extra tribe member and they sit Edna out – she doesn’t look happy.
Ozzy, Dawn, and Cochran tackle the build for Savaii. Brandon, Rick and Sophie do it for Upolu – they jump out to an early lead when Ozzy slams into a post. Savaii continues to struggle as Upolu finishes the first half of the challenge before Savaii even has their second batch of coconuts. As Albert knocks down the first target, Savaii starts building their slingshot. Savaii soon ties up the game though, so the it’s all been for naught. They take turns with the lead. Upolu is getting frustrated with Mikayla because she insists on shooting the slingshot one handed and never takes down a target. Savaii wins. Coach sets his target on Mikayla.
Savaii gets immunity and reward. Dawn talks about how it was needed to reunite the tribe. Ozzy says the same thing. Cochran steps outside his comfort zone and tries the waterslide. It’s nice to see Ozzy join in with the tribe.
At Upolu, Coach is adamant about getting rid of Mikayla. Brandon will obviously be on board. Albert goes to Mikayla and tells her he will keep her safe – that he can convince Coach. Albert goes to Rick and Sophie and convinces them to vote Edna over Mikayla. Brandon says he’s be open to keeping Mikayla…if he hadn’t given his word that Edna was the sixth person in the alliance. Brandon says he’s keeping Edna regardless whether it costs him the game or not. Albert is frustrated and goes to Coach. He won’t find comfort here. Coach says he cost them the game today because he couldn’t get Mikayla to follow his instructions. There is no way he’s voting to keep her. Albert is really upset.
Coach goes to Rick and tries to convince him to get rid of Mikayla. Albert goes to Rick and tells him the vote is his. Rick isn’t happy with being put in the position of pissing off half the tribe no matter what he does.
At Tribal Council, Jeff grills the tribe on strength versus loyalty, pointing out that Edna gets set out…a lot. The team is clearly divided with both sides making strong arguments. Albert says loyalty can be faked, but strength in challenges can’t. Brandon (of course) can’t keep his mouth shut. He calls out the entire tribe saying that they all chose to make Edna the sixth person. He tells them that there should only be one vote possible. Brandon says to vote him out today if that’s how they’re going to play.
Coach talks to Brandon about how sometimes it’s possible to be too honest – that revealing things in the right time isn’t being dishonest or disloyal. He’s obviously trying to justify not telling Brandon about the idol. Brandon isn’t falling for it though. He says there is no gray – it’s all black or white (Ah, youth.)
Jeff calls for the vote. It’s still going to come down to Rick – he’s been a nonentity in the game up to now, but now it all rides on him. It’s a three-three tie with one vote left. Mikayla is voted out of her tribe and heads to Redemption Island.
