Is anybody upset that another Hantz this season is stealing time away from other contestants? I’m not! Although Brandon went from likeable in Ep 1 to borderline creepy in Ep 2, and although 3 of the last 4 seasons has featured a member of the Hantz family, I kind of find Brandon to be an interesting dude. Love him or hate him, Russell Hantz is now more legendary then he even probably deserves, and his shadow is still cast over this entire game. It’ll be interesting to see if Brandon is simply adjusting to island paranoia, or having a full-fledged Survivor meltdown.
Last week Jeff Probst “Touted” a video-teaser about this week’s episode, asking, “Is it in the blood?” He of course is referring to Brandon, and is wondering if the lying, cheating, stealing, and strategic thinking of Uncle Russell is simply an ingrained part of the Hantz family. It seems like the answer to that question may be “yes”, if we read into the CBS synopsis for Episode 3:
Episode 3 – “Reap What You Sow” – “HOPING TO AVOID EXPULSION TO REDEMPTION ISLAND, ONE CASTAWAY MAKES A LAST-DITCH EFFORT TO KEEP ALIVE IN THE GAME, ON “SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC,” WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 28. One castaway reveals a shocking secret to their tribe while another castaway, in a last-ditch effort to keep alive in the game, devises a plan and pretends to find the hidden Immunity Idol. Meanwhile, on Redemption Island, the first castaway is sent home.”
Analysis. Don’t look now, but we’ve finally and officially arrived back at Redemption Island for the 2nd time. How will it play out this season, and what do you think of keeping Redemption Island around as a permanent part of the game? Do you think that somebody will run the table, like Matt did last season? And what new twists will the show introduce this time around?
To start things off, we will see Semhar versus Christine. I would believe that most money will be put on Christine to remain in the game, as we have yet to see the toll 3 days all alone on RI has taken on Semhar. My bet is that Christine is more of a fighter, and that she’ll be around, although I don’t see her dominating the game all season long…her only hope is for a twist of some sort that could send her back into the game sooner than people expect.
The Duel aside, what’s this about another “shocking secret” being revealed? Survivor is starting to play out more like Jerry Springer. It’s anybody’s guess as to who or what this shocking secret may be, unless Hantz completes his unraveling by sharing with everybody what he shared with Coach last week, that he is a Hantz. If that happens, added up with the awkward Tribal Council of last week, and it would be no surprise if Brandon is the player making a “last-ditch effort” to stay alive in the game. “Is it in the blood?” It is if Brandon has the capability of lying, and creating a fake Idol.
Of course, Brandon could just be a red herring, and maybe we’ll see Papa Bear with a fake Idol…which probably won’t go over well with Ozzy, who has the real one.
It all happens tonight! You know the drill, 8 EST on CBS tonight!
