By and large, it’s hard to predict whether Fox News’ second presidential debate will garner a more favorable reaction from conservative talk radio than the network’s last.
But in the minds of some of the biggest names in talk radio, the previous September 12th GOP debate will be a tough act to follow.
Rush Limbaugh called the last debate, hosted by CNN and the Tea Party, the best one of the 2012 election cycle.
Mark Levin later agreed on his own radio program on September 13th. “This was the best debate. And it was the best debate because the tea party was involved and asked good questions,” Levin asserted.
While guest hosting the Dennis Miller show on the same day, Andrew Breitbart also praised CNN’s performance despite past objections about the network in a discussion with CNN analyst Dana Bash. In addition to praising Bash’s coverage of the Congressman Weiner scandal, Breitbart also complemented CNN on its debate venue.
“[After]…last night’s incredibly professional performance, I am looking at CNN as perhaps a place that is salvageable in the godforsaken mainstream media…it’s a place that can be – especially in an election cycle – fair. And I thought last night they did a very fair job, certainly juxtaposed with last week’s NBC debacle.”
However, the morning prior to the September 22nd debate talk show host Laura Ingraham made it very clear there was one crucial issue that had not been discussed – and she wanted it put front and center by Fox News that evening.
“So far I’ve heard almost none of the Republican candidates discuss this. Tonight is the big debate. Will the issue of China come up at all? Will it? Will we be able to discuss tonight how America lives in a world – and grows stronger – with China at 9.4% economic growth and our country under 1% economic growth. How is that going to affect the American family? Anyone want to have that conversation because I haven’t heard it – at all.”
Whether the candidates grant her wish – or whether Fox’s debate garners the same praise as the last – remains to be seen.
