Taylor Swift left her audiences wonderstruck last night on her Denver leg of the “Speak Now” tour at Pepsi Center. Everything from the COVERGIRL (the tour’s sponsor) makeover booths, the text messages audience members could send to enter to win pit passes, and the enthralling opening act NEEDTOBREATHE to the finale where the actor/singer/songwriter made a lap around the audience in an air born mini-stage left the Denver audience in complete awe of Taylor’s presence in the Pepsi Center.
Taylor likes to talk with the audience throughout her shows and last night was no exception. Topics she covered ranged from the stories she tells through her music to the musicians she admires that are from right here in Denver. After mentioning one of Denver’s own successful bands The Fray, she broke out into their smash hit “How To Save A Life” along with the help of the audience who sang every word.
The stage set-up for the “Speak Now” tour is nothing short of majestic extravagance. It exudes romance and beauty and stretches completely across the width of Pepsi Center’s floor and included a mini-stage that was set-up between the floor seats and the first row of the stadium seats where she sat under a tree and played “Fearless” on her ukulele. Every concert-goer has a great seat no matter where they are sitting in the venues of Taylor’s “Speak Now” tour.
If the stages aren’t enough to keep you entertained, the back-up dancers sure will with the way they help tell the story of each song through their moves and performing stunts like rope acrobatics. Not to mention the way Taylor and the dancers seem to appear from nowhere and everywhere at the same time through holes in the stage floor and props that are constantly being changed and brought in and out in between songs. And this is all in addition to Taylor’s ecstatic personality and blissful music which is what everyone originally came to see.
It was no surprise when the fans wanted an encore from Taylor and she was ready for it. She introduced us to a new song and since it wasn’t clear what the title of it was, I’m just going to call it “This Love Is Ours.” She followed the very well-received new song with “Fifteen” and closed the show with another one of her chart topping singles, “Love Story.” And when all is said and done, this tour is a real fairytale experience to those lucky enough to hold tickets to one of its performances.
