Terry Brock, MBA, CSP, CPAE member of the National Speakers Association Professional Speaker Hall of Fame coached NSA Pittsburgh attendees on technology and marketing via Skype www.skype.com Tuesday October 25, 2011 from 6:30 to 9:00 at La Roche College north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Jeff Tobe, CSP and past-president of NSA www.jefftobe.com, said, “What better way to teach us technology than to use technology to demonstrate.”
As the crowd mingled around a table laden with Swedish meatballs, fresh fruit and veggies, Terry watched from the big screen at the front of the room reminding me of the Wizard of Oz.
“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,” I quipped. But Terry didn’t want to be a standoffish image. He wanted to interact.
Terry’s voice reached across the room from the speakers, “If you’re going to network, can you do it over here so I can be a part of it?” Those who had already filled their plates complied, standing where Terry could hear and see them through the microphone and video camera set up by NSA board member Jeff Tobin www.JeffreyTobin.com.
Terry next asked each person to step on the blue X and chat with him one-on-one. He knew some of the people personally from past NSA conventions. He also commented on Twitter and Face Book posts other folks had written. Not only does Terry Brock use technology, he pays attention to what others are saying.
Smart phone usage was encouraged since Tweets about the program build awareness of Terry Brock and his informative presentations. Dr. Trina Hess www.yourshiningexample.com obliged posting several tweets throughout the course of the evening. During his presentation Terry used a laptop with a Yeti mic by Blue Microphones which made his voice clear, natural, and warm.
iPhone has an app called iJot. It can be used to send video email.
Use www.speedtest.net or www.toast.net to check your bandwidth speed to be sure you have enough to transmit well on Skype if you want to use it for a presentation.
Terry recommended posting some material on You Tube www.youtube.com for marketing purposes and to get your message out there to help others, but also to keep creating new material.
Even though Terry couldn’t be physically in the room, he made the presentation and interaction personal and comfortable.
I have listened to Terry Brock on webinars. His voice sounds like he’s smiling and happy. Now that I’ve seen him I found his countenance matches his voice. He is genuinely pleased to assist others.
