Tonight is NFL week on the Biggest Loser. After the fallout of last week’s weigh in, the Blue Tam (50+) lead by Anna Kournikova, try to regroup after their numbers dwindle down to a mere 3, two of which are women.
At their first challenge, host Alison Sweeney introduces the contestants to NFL week. The contestants are playing as individuals and have to compete at the chance to win $5,000.
NFL player and last year’s Superbowl champion of Green Bay Clay Matthews, Atlanta Falcon Tony Gonzalez and New Orleans Saint Drew Brees made an appearance tonight and the contestants
(The contestant with the highest percentages of weight loss tonight will win VIP tickets for two to the Superbowl.)
At first, it seemed as if the NFL players were the favorites to win, but after the contestants knocked them out of the race, it all came down to a Battle of Red on Red. All red team members were left standing but in the end, underdog Courtney won the challenge and the chance to win the Superbowl tickets.
[Unfortunately time does not heal all wounds as Antone, former Philadelphia Eagle and Atlanta Falcon was forced to face his demons after the challenge when he felt that he is not seen as a football legend.]
The second challenge was a four quarter challenge and the contestants who burn the highest number of calories win a spa day. During the first quarter, all 3 trainers decided to use different techniques to ensure their team comes out victorious.
Black Team started strong with 283 calories burned, Red directly behind them with 238. (Blue Team unfortunately barely broke the 100 mark.) After the halfway point, the Black Team pulled ahead by 100 points and everything seemed dire for the Blue Team.
It was during the second half in which all things changed but in the end, the Black Team won with a staggering average of 1171 calories burned, Red Team was nowhere close with 952 calories and Blue Team only managed to burn an average of 764 calories, but with only 3 team members two of which are women, that was a pretty excellent feat.
[Without fail, Veteran trainer Bob Harper delivered and worked his team to the bone and declined that said spa day on behalf of his team.]
At their last chance workouts, each team got to work with an NFL player. The Black Team worked out with Shawn Merriman of the Charger, Blue Team with Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson and the Red Team with Heisman trophy winner and Denver Bronco Tim Tebow.
This challenge was right up Antone’s alley since he needed that extra push from a fellow ball player to get his mindset back in the game so to speak. The question remains, will the workout payoff for Antone or will someone else walk away with the prize of the NFL Superbowl tickets?
At the weigh in, the Red Team blazed a hard path for the Black and Blue Team pulling out a 46 pound weight loss. Jessica managed to lose 11 pounds with a staggering 4.7% of weight loss. The Black team had to lose more than 49 pounds in order to beat the Red Team and ensure they all remain on campus one more week. Joe and Antone alone pulled out high numbers and a combined weight loss of 3 pounds. Joe beat out Jessica with a percentage of 5.25% total weight loss this week, Jennifer loss 5.25% as well but within 1/1000thof a percent of total weight loss and John managed to lose 18 pounds, grounding the Red Team’s numbers in the dirt.
[Mike of the Blue Team won the tickets to the Superbowl with a 17 pound loss and he respect off all the contestants.]
In the end, the battle came down to the Red verses the Blue Team on who will have to send a member of their team home. In the end, the Red Team was up for elimination and had to send one of their teammates home for the first time.
The Red team had to decide between Courtney and Patrick. Almost every member had a great reason to stay, for better health, to lose weight and to gain a sense of worth, yet Patrick decided to make the ultimate sacrifice and decided to plea for the team to send himself home, not without fear of failure and the unknown.
In the end, the Red Team decided to send home Patrick to finish his journey. Since starting the Biggest Loser, Patrick has gone from 387 pounds to 296 pounds; that’s a combined total of 91 pounds loss. Since returning home, he has been working on his marriage and plans on running a marathon and to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer.
Next week on the Biggest Loser:
Bob Harper may have to watch out for his Black Team more than ever with newcomers Dolvett Quince and Anna Kournikova gunning to take him down at the weigh in. Will they succeed or will Bob further grind the Red and Blue teams under his gym shoes? Find out the answer to the question next week.
