Will West and the Friendly Strangers recently brought their eclectic mix of music to the Blue Scorcher cafe. The “Friendly Strangers” moniker is apropos; West employs a rotating group of musicians to bring his music to life. The rotating band of musicians is top-notch, and indeed quite friendly to audiences and fans.
“I Shall Not Be Moved” is a Dylan-esque piece that immediately engages the listener. “Blues Interlude” shows off West’s innate ability on guitar and harmonica, and is well worth listening to more than once; the nuances he provides cannot be caught by only a single listen.
West’s music is an eclectic mix of folk, Americana, country, and the occasional pop number. The title track of his most recent album, “Take This Moment,” is an upbeat, country-style song that virtually begs the listener to get up and dance.
West is a Carolina native who currently makes his home in Portland, Ore. He and his ever-changing band travel throughout northern Oregon and the coastal regions.
