Faye: “Relax, it’s Halloween. We are just blending in with all the supernatural wannabes.”
“Masked” is the Halloween episode of The Secret Circle. If you haven’t seen the episode yet, then beware of spoilers! To refresh your memory one what happened last week, click here. The Secret Circle airs Thursday nights at 8 on the CW, channel 5 for local Houstonians.
Halloween episodes are pretty much a staple in television shows nowadays, and Halloween fits perfectly with the supernatural theme. While it merely served as the backdrop for the plot of this episode, it was still nice. It allowed the circle a reason to get together, and gave viewers a cutely funny scene of Melissa and Faye bewitching the decorations. It was nice to see them both happy as friends together, especially since Melissa is still mourning over Nick’s death.
Relationships were explored this episode. Faye and Cassie have started to become friends, and their friendship is one of the most intriguing of the show. They are different but they still get along. Cassie is still also trying to repair the damage that is Adam and Diana’s now over relationship. Thankfully the writers are not rushing to get them back together because there are some great storylines open to them if they keep Adam and Diana apart. Plus having Adam fight for Diana’s love and trust again allows the audience to get invested in them and want them to be together. The writers may even convert some people who had been pulling for Cassie and Adam to get together. Personally, team Adam and Diana is now the place to be!
The witch hunters are back this episode. Jake is still trying to sneak his way into the group, trying to gain their trust so they don’t know that he is out to kill them. One of the surprising twists was that Luke was a witch hunter!! Having him be a witch hunter was a smart move because like Faye, some viewers wanted Cassie to be in a relationship (or at least work at maybe being in one) with someone like Luke. Through the detective skills of the circle, viewers get a little bit of history regarding the witch hunters, but there is still a lot to explain, and hopefully the writers realize this and will continue to educate us all on them.
Cassie has definitely been known throughout town as Amelia’s daughter, and this episode begins slowly hinting at who her father is and how that affects Cassie’s magic. As soon as the storeowner talks to Adam’s dad about Cassie’s father, this lightbulb goes off where you are like “oh right, what about Cassie’s dad!” He has been absent from the show, and viewers really know nothing about him. The ending suggests that next episode will feature more about who her father was and what exactly dark magic is and how that will affect Cassie. Personally, this is very intriguing!
