Today’s struggling economy has affected thousands of American families across the country, but who would of thought it would ever affect the popular TV family “The Simpsons? “
Radar Online reported that a money dispute could find The Simpsons in their last season. Right now the future of the popular Fox cartoon is in the hands of the six main voice actors- Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner,Nancy Cartwright,Yeardley Smith,Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer and 20th Century Fox who have told the entire cast they must take a 45% pay cut.
The starring Simpson six all make close to $8 million a piece for the 22 weeks worth of episodes per season.
The negotiations reveal that the cast all had agreed to take a 30% pay cut in return for each receiving a percentage of the profits from global syndication and merchandises…But Fox bigwigs behind the show claim that unless they can cut the production costs considerably, they will have to end the long running show.
So far it doesn’t appear as if Fox is willing to deal reasonably with the cast of The Simpsons. The Daily Beast reported that a source close to the shows cast stated “The show has made billions of profits over the years and will continue to do so as far as the eye can see down the road. The actors are willing to take a pay cut of one third of their salaries, but that is not good enough for Fox.”
Fox reps stated the show just cannot continue “under its current financial model” but the negotiations are still open.
“We are hopeful that we can reach an agreement with the voice cast that allows The Simpsons to go on entertaining audiences with original episodes for many years to come, the rep added.
