In a strange turn of events; and one might think a little staged as they set up the spot (which you can view to the left) showing a bit of a fight between Simon and the lady judges, Simon and LA Reid actually agreed on a contestant that may not have been the strongest singer and tore the judge’s table in two. Paula and Nicole were not impressed with Tiah Tolliver and told her she needed to work on her vocals first. Simon and LA thought she had something and wanted her to continue on her journey with the X Factor (Fox channel 21 in Colorado Springs).
Tiah could have walked away and came back fighting another day, but instead she tried again, singing a second song a capella (which is not always a good choice, background music helps people find pitch and range and stay on key). The second song did not sway Paula who in a rare show of strength stayed her ground. It was Nicole who finally buckled under Simon and LA (as well as the audience’s) pressure and gave her the third yes required for her to move on. Tiah took the feedback like a pro, telling her fiance after the audition she needed to take voice lessons because she still had work to do. Some other contestants seemed to ignore the constructive criticism. Perhaps listening will help Tiah move ahead in the competition while others fall short.
She doesn’t fall firmly into the entertainer or the singer category. She falls right in the middle. Being someone who is moldable could help her go far in the industry. What did you think of her audition? Who is your favorite contestant so far? Feel free to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
