First it was Brentwood Academy offensive lineman Graham Shuler who wanted to explore the West Coast as he committed to Stanford.
Now BA teammate Al Thompson will join Shuler in the newly revamped “Pac 12” as he committed to Arizona State after a weekend visit to watch the Sun Devils beat rival Southern California.
Thompson is the third commitment for the Eagles joining Shuler (Stanford) and defensive lineman Woody Baron (Virginia Tech) and is the Sun Devils 24th commitment for 2012.
“I really liked the fast pace offense that they run and the high amount of passing,” Thompson said.
Plus, coach (Dennis) Erickson and wide receivers coach (Steve) Broussard made me want to be a part of the rise of their football program.”
Arizona State was the first school to offer Thompson over the summer and that stuck with him as the Sun Devils beat out Middle Tennessee State, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, UAB and Western Kentucky for the wide receiver’s services.
Thompson (6-2, 180) leads BA in receiving this season as he has 22 catches for 372 yards and has scored four touchdowns for the 4-1 Eagles.
He is the 34th commitment in the state so far joining Mitchell wide receiver Nathan Cole (Cincinnati), Christian Brothers defensive Chase Robison (Texas Tech), Blackman running back I’tavius Mathers (Ole Miss), Dobyns Bennett offensive lineman Ty Hayworth (Wake Forest), Independence kicker Landon Foster (Kentucky), Memphis East defensive back Will Redmond (Mississippi State), Memphis East offensive lineman Latarius Brady (Arkansas State), Mitchell defensive tackle Greg Buckhanon (Arkansas State), Wooddale defensive end Carl Mitchell (Memphis), Wooddale wide receiver Daniel Hurd (Memphis), Knoxville West kicker George Bullock (Tennessee), Cleveland quarterback Chad Voytik (Pittsburgh), Knoxville Central Athlete Cody Blanc (Tennessee), Jackson Christian wide receiver Drae Bowles (Tennessee), Wooddale running back Jovon Robinson (Auburn), Ridgeway defensive end Brandon Lewis (Arkansas), Brentwood Academy defensive end Woody Baron (Virginia Tech), Columbia wide receiver Eric Belew (Memphis), MBA offensive lineman Blake Bars (Michigan), Brentwood Academy offensive lineman Graham Shuler (Stanford), Memphis East running back Brian Kimbrow (Vanderbilt), McGavock defensive end Caleb Azubike (Vanderbilt), Ensworth wide receiver Corey Batey (Vanderbilt), MUS defensive back Alex Dale (Cincinnati), MUS offensive guard Ben Still (Ole Miss), Ridgeway running back Jaylen Walton (Ole Miss), Ridgeway defensive end Cordale Boyd (Arkansas), BGA quarterback C.J.
