Last week I published an article about the horrors of gas chambers still in use in our country today to kill shelter animals.
A wonderful advocate has made me aware of another petition, with this one being directed right at the White House, where true changes can take place. The goal was 5000 signatures, which has been reached, but advocates need to knock this out of the park in numbers before the deadline of Monday, October 31st, so time is critical for this petition. So far, there are about 7300 signatures on the petition, so your help is truly needed. The link for the petition is given below.
The use of gas chambers is something so terrible for shelter animals. These animals end up at the city pounds and shelters through no fault of their own. Greedy breeders continue to pump out litter after litter of puppies and kittens, when as it is, there simply aren’t enough homes for the animals that are already here.
Irresponsible guardians don’t spay or neuter their companion animals, resulting in out-of-control breeding and more animals dumped at shelters. Others are there for ludicrous reasons given such as “not matching the décor” after someone has gotten new furniture. (This was an actual reason given for dumping a dog.)
Regardless of the reason, cats and dogs are killed by the millions in shelters across the country due to humans. It’s bad enough that they have to die, but at the very least we humans owe it to them to allow them to have a truly humane death. Gas chambers cannot even remotely be considered as humane. Quite the opposite; it’s one of the cruelest methods of euthanasia besides a heart stick.
Included with this new article is the video from the prior one. It’s graphic and heartbreaking to watch, but people need to know what happens to these innocent lives once dumped at a shelter.
Please take a moment to add your name to this petition before Monday, to show our government how passionately advocates believe that the death of our animals in gas chambers must end forever. (You will need to register if you haven’t already, but the lives of innocent animals depend on all of us, so it’s well worth the time.)
We as advocates simply must speak up and be heard. The animals are counting on each of us.
