The Ironman Race Trainer Pro is ‘very’ similar to the Race Trainer that was released a couple years ago. But there have been a couple of ‘major’ modifications made to the Ironman Race Trainer Pro. The retail price for this model is $200.
The most obvious change is where it sits on the wrist. Having it sit on the radius, or the inside of your wrist, allows for easy viewing while not only running but cycling as well. When riding in the aero position, the face of the watch faces upward.
The display digits are very large and easy to see at a glance. One feature that this watch has that so many have overlooked, is the start/split button is on top of the watch. By having it on top of the watch face it does not hit your aero bottle and inadvertently take splits. Most watches place this button on the bottom of the face, which often will hit the bottle. The TIMEX Global Trainer does allows you to ‘lock’ the buttons to avoid this though.
Another change is the overall look and design. The strap is designed with a lot of characteristics including a stamped M dot logo. This strap is also replaceable and contains what they call the “sling” which allows it to sit comfortably on the wrist. The face of the watch also has a carbon fiber ring around it that adds to the new look as well.
The function of the watch itself is identical to the original Race Trainer and has all the same features including the USB stick that wirelessly, and easily, transmits the data from the watch and then loads it seamlessly to Training Peaks. It holds up to 10 workouts before you need to upload. If you choose not to upload, it just writes over the oldest one. While transmitting the data from the Pro Trainer, you can also make changes to the setting on the watch as well. So the USB data exchanger is a 2 way device.
