My-My….How beautiful they are…
All the girls who are going to the homecoming dance are certainly busy searching and trying on many dresses to find that “perfect” homecoming dress for this years homecoming dance. I work in a retail store that is extremely busy this time of year with girls trying on dresses for their homecoming dance. This time of year also reminds me when I was a little girl and my daughter was once a little girl playing dress up. When I was a little girl as well as the rest of you were all little girls I’m sure that we had many play times where we dressed up as well. Putting on your momma’s or perhaps your big sisters’ high heeled shoes, and a dress; whether it was a dress from your mom’s closet, your sister’s or your grandmother’s. Let us not forget the jewelry as well. I remember getting into my grandmother’s jewelry boxes, in awe at the amount of jewelry she had. I would layer up my neck with pearl necklaces and other pretty necklaces and let’s not forget the rings on every finger. Aww, such fun times. I danced and pranced around my bedroom as I am certain if you played dress up you did too, feeling special or perhaps like a princess. The girls I witness today coming into the store are doing that very same thing-trying on, taking pictures, jumping, dancing, shaking trying to see which one flows and fits the best. We add the fact we have cell phones today these girls are taking pictures with each dress they try on. My guess is that they are probably sending those snap shots to other girlfriends, to their parents, grandparents, maybe even their dates, retrieving others opinions. They laugh and giggle and often can be in our dressing rooms for hours at a time.
The dresses are gorgeous and the style for homecoming dresses are short in length, the long gowns are for Prom. Picking the right dress could be due to a school having a certain theme for their homecoming dance. Maybe the school decides they want to have their school colors as their theme. This means, all who are attending the dance should wear a dress that represents their school colors. Maybe, a school chooses a Mardi Gras theme, this could mean a girl could chose a dress that is partially multi colored or a dress that is all multi colored. Whatever the theme maybe or whatever the style and the color maybe, a girl must feel comfortable and must feel happy and pretty in the dress. These times for these girls are about making memories. Memories that can and will last a lifetime.
There really is no right or wrong with a homecoming dress. Homecoming dresses really are what flatters you, what fits you and your personality the best, what makes you feel happy and makes you feel you have “got to have that dress”! Homecoming really is the informal dance of the school season and prom is the formal. Homecoming is celebrated the following night of the homecoming football game. Homecoming still gives each person an opportunity to show off what they bought. To show some sort of personality in these dresses. I thought it was fun during my homecoming days to see what each girl had chosen to wear. What they chose represents something about them as an individual.
Good luck to all the girls attending their homecoming dance and know that all of you are beautiful in your new dresses!!!
