If last weekend’s Little Five Fest wasn’t enough, or if you’re just barely keeping the party going into the weekend, here are some of the best shows taking on the neighborhood.
J-Live In-Store at Criminal Records
With his new album S.P.T.A. (Said Person of That Ability) buzzing around the world, the international rapper and DJ is stopping by Little Five Points for a free, all-ages in-store session. Get a chance to meet J-Live, purchase his album, have it signed and watch him perform – all for free (except purchasing said album, which is a must-purchase)!
Saturday / 4 p.m. / FREE / All ages
Music for the Mission at The Five Spot
Although Star Bar has the awesome Cash Bash going on that night, The Five Spot has a benefit on its own mission of some sort Saturday evening. Music for the Mission is a show giving its proceeds to the Atlanta Union Mission, a ministry providing shelter, job attainment and transitional housing, in light of the staggering 10% unemployment rate. Featured in the lineup is Creative Loafing’s Best New Local Act and Best Folk Act of 2011 Pocket The Moon, as well as blues rocker Jo Anne Carlson, folk soul singer Kara Hesse and more.
Saturday / 9 p.m. / $6-$8 / All ages
Foe Destroyer and Hawkeye Pierce at The Five Spot
This show is set to be geared with some ol’ fashioned guitar scrambling. After seeing Hawkeye Pierce perform at Little Five Fest, the need for this band to perform in Little Five Points has grown by the hundredfold. The guest of the night though is Foe Destroyer, another guitar-playing connoisseur collective from Austin, who will bring an additional electronic element to the stage.
Sunday / 9 p.m. / $6 / All ages
Star Bar 20th Anniversary Series featuring Soda Jerk
The saying “time flies when you’re having fun” holds little weight to the ginormous legacy Star Bar has put on the Little Five Points community. From being the central location of almost all Atlanta artists to taking on as many pre and after party tasks for most of the eastside of Atlanta, Star Bar is still like its old bank reputation because everyone has to come here. With that said, make your way to one of their many 20th Anniversary shows that reflects their venue best, including Wednesday featuring Soda Jerks, eL fOSSIL and Walk From The Gallows.
Wedensday / 9 p.m. / $5 / 21+
