A man living in the historic city of Cooperstown, New York, took vengeance on his neighbor by taking vengeance on the neighbor’s dog. As a result two innocent animals now lay dead, and one of the men has been charged with a crime.
The incident began early last week when an unleashed dog belonging to Jeffrey Bennett, Jr., 20, wandered onto the neighboring property owned by Jack Greenlee Jr., 27 and killed several of Greenlee’s chickens. Greenlee shot and killed the dog—but not, he insists, in retaliation.
According to a report he filed with local police, Greenlee maintains that after killing the birds the dog became aggressive toward him. He also told police that he had attempted to apologize to Bennett for shooting his dog but was rebuffed.
On Thursday, Bennett decided to settle the score on his own terms by entering Greenlee’s property and shooting and killing the man’s leashed dog. The incident occurred around at 5:43 p.m.
Bennett has since been charged with animal cruelty. Further details will follow as they are released.
