Something about the race atmosphere and camaraderie always trumps the monotonous training runs. Those who run are always looking forward to their next run and spend the majority of their training season preparing for such events. Here are 4 upcoming, local events you runners won’t want to miss.
The 5th annual Junior League of Norman Monster Dash will be held on Saturday, October 29th. The 5K race will begin at 8:00 a.m.; followed by the 1 mile run/walk at 9:00 a.m. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes while participating in the 1 mile run/walk.
The Monster Dash will be held at Journey Church, located off Tecumseh Road between I-35 and 36th Avenue in Norman, Oklahoma. This will be a great opportunity to promote fitness and nutrition within the community while raising funds for JLN projects that include Baby Steps, Done in a Day and Food for Kids. The Tulsa Run has become an iconic road race during the month of October and this year on Saturday, October 29th the 34th annual event will take place in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Tulsa Run has long been a favorite for locals as well as many runners from across the United States. Many who participate during this event are first time runners that are looking to gain a sense of accomplishment by crossing the finish line. Some of those running on the streets are experienced and well-seasoned and are looking to fine tune their times for other regional action including the Route 66 Marathon in November, also held in Tulsa. Whether you are looking to compete in the 2 km fun run, the 5 km run or 15 km race, runners of all ages and experience levels are sure to have a blast as they make their way through the course and enjoy their experience and . Festivities will begin at the finish line at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and conclude with the 15 km awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
World Run Day
On November 6th runners all across the globe will be running during World Run Day. This event is designed to celebrate the benefits of running and allows you, the runner, to participate in an event with other runners with one goal in mind, running. You can run alone or in a group. You determine the distance and location of where you want to run. This annual event is an excellent opportunity to get some miles logged and contribute to a great event.
Jenks Half Marathon
This half marathon is the oldest in the state of Oklahoma and offers a great opportunity for any runner to have a PR. The run is mostly on flat terrain and offers some great scenery. The race begins at the Jenks High School track and takes you on a stretch of gently rolling hills and tree-lined farmland and suburban city streets that bring you within eye-shot of the Arkansas River and Jenk’s South Lakes Golf Course. The course is entirely on pavement and will end with an Olympic style feel when you finish the final stretch on the Jenks track. In addition to the Half Marathon, there is also a 5 km race for those who are not quite ready for the longer duration. Regardless if you are a novice or a more experienced runner, the Jenks Half Marathon is one of the best races in Oklahoma.
