After a great deal of hard work on Coach Campbell’s part on behalf of his team the USF Bulls, he was able to secure two games for his team this coming Saturday at Sycamore Field on the USF Campus. The “B” team will play Eckerd College at 1 PM, followed by the “A” side match against the University of Miami at 2:30 PM. This “A” side match against Miami is the first for the Bulls as they move up to Division I. All are encouraged to come out and support the Bulls against the Hurricanes (A side) and Tritons (B side). For the readers who missed the rest of yesterday’s edition due to the editing issues, here is a reprint of the Italy-US game highlights, and a link to the NY Times Article about the Eagles:
Italians defeat US 27-10
The United States Eagles played an inspired match against Italy, but fell short in the end at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in Nelson, New Zealand on Tuesday. The Eagles lost the game 27-10. Chris Wyles earned all ten points for the Eagles. He successfully scored a try in the 18th minute, and then connected on its conversion for 7 points. In the 28th minute, Wyles successfully kicked a penalty kick, which would be the final points for the Eagles in the contest. Had the United States defeated Italy, the US would have been assured an automatic bid for the next Rugby World Cup in 2015. The US now heads back home from New Zealand, with a record of one win and three losses. The victory came against Russia, and the losses were to Ireland, Australia, and Italy. Still, the Eagles proved to be a more formidable opponent than many clubs had expected, which should bode well for the future of the sport in this nation. Also, these games should serve as a solid foundation for the US as it prepared to qualify for the 2015 Cup.
