It’s September in the beautiful state of Utah. School has started and fall is in the air. Soon the leaves will be changing to rich yellows and reds and cooler weather is ushering in the fall holidays. With costumes already out in most retail stores, parents immediately start thinking about what they will do for Halloween this year. Will they have a Halloween Party, or just help out in the classroom? What are the kids going to dress up as this year? As adults, should they dress up and if so where to get a great costume that doesn’t make them look 15 or 50? These are all questions that start mulling around in most parent’s mind this time of year.
There are some fun activities available for families to do together at Halloween time. Our family’s personal favorite is the Corn Maze at Thanksgiving Point where you can have tons of fun just wandering around in a themed maze. Also, for your little princess fans, check out the Pumpkin Princess Carriage and playground at the entrance of the Cornbelly’s Corn Maze. This event starts on September 30th and goes until Halloween. The prices are very reasonable and it can be fun for all ages of kids and adults in the family. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween Costumes for this event. It’s so fun to see all of the kids dressed up like princesses and pirates! For great modest costumes, check out this little costume shop based in Orem: https://www.playfullyeverafter.com/
Another family-friendly outing for fall is the Heber Creeper Haunted Canyon at Vivian Park train ride. It’s great fun for the whole family featuring ghost stories and other haunting tales of ghouls and goblins. Who doesn’t love a train ride in the fall crisp air and great company and a train ride is a must for a fun family outing? The Heber Creeper Halloween event is usually held 2 weeks before Halloween. See their site for more information.
Also fun is visiting the Bee-Witched Boutique at Gardner Village where you can peruse fun shops and eat at interesting restaurants while dressed as witches, if desired! You’ll find everything from haunted clothing to jewelry to watches to yummy treats this beautiful time of year. Don’t forget your witch hat and you’re best cackling laugh, as it’s a requirement for showing up. You may even win some fun prizes as they do giveaways and contests during this event as well. You may want to leave your husband home on this one ladies! Take your girl-friends instead.
Then, the last half of October is the Haunted Village at This is The Place Park. How fun to arrive after dark and be haunted by any number of unnatural beings! Event orgainzers say, “Have a full-immersion heebie jeebie scare like no other as you wind your way through actual haunted homes and buildings. Be careful, though. Who knows what lurks in Haunted Village? This is a haunting you’ll never forget – just ask anyone who’s been here!”
There are any number of fun events to attend as a family. Some of the most fun things to do are within the walls of your own home. From decorating the house to carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating with your kids, you can never go wrong with free activities like crafts at home, or inviting friends and family over for a spook-tacular time. Whether you are young or old, rich or poor, there are a multitude of things to do right in your own backyard!
