UTSA bounced back from a tough loss against Stephen F Austin on Friday with a successful 2-0 win against Sam Houston State to earn their first conference win of the season.
The Roadrunners controlled the opening stages and were unlucky not to take the lead in the 12th minute as Jodi Leroy hit the post with her strike.
The teams exchanged shots in the middle of the half, but UTSA got their break through just before half time as Laylla da Cruz scored in the 45th minute hitting a beautiful shot from 30 yards that sailed over the keepers head for the 1-0 lead.
Sam Houston State came out the better side with some shots and corners but it was UTSA who got the early goal in the half as Jodi Leroy put in a wonderful cross for Edith Lopez who headed home easily in the 63rd minute.
Sam Houston state started to come back into it with a number of shots, UTSA keeper Ari Calderon standing strong to deny the Bearkats.
It was a good response from UTSA, as they prepare for a roadtrip to I-35 rivals Texas State in San Marcos on Sunday.
