Long Island, NY – Authorities announced that one of the numerous sets of human remains found during the Long Island serial killer investigation has now been linked to a 1996 Fire Island case.
According to CBS NY, DNA links the skull of a woman found near Jones Beach in April to two legs found in Davis Park in 1996.
So far, the ten sets of remains found in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties were discovered during the search for New Jersey prostitute, Shannon Gilbert, 24. She, like the five women identified – Amber Lynn Costello, 27; Megan Waterman, 22; Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25; Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Jessica Taylor, 20 – advertised sexual services on Craigslist. Shannon vanished in May 2010 not far from where the remains were found, after running off into the night after leaving a client’s home. She was not found to be among the 10 sets of remains discovered.

This week police released composite sketches of two yet unidentified people, also believed to be victims of the serial murderer.
The composite sketches depict a woman with long hair and an Asian man. Although only their bones were found, a forensic artist used the victims’ bone structure to recreate their faces.
The woman, dubbed Jane Doe No. 6, was approximately 5-foot-2 and was from 18- to 35-years-old when she died. The male was between the ages of 17 and 23 and stood about 5-foot-6. He was missing one of his top front teeth and two molars, and authorities reveal he was dressed as a woman when he died. Police believe both individuals met their demise about a decade ago.

Also found at the scene of searches were the remains of a female toddler – believed to be between the ages of 16- and 32-months-old – who police say was non-Caucasian. The child was found wrapped in a blanket several yards from Jane Doe No. 6, but has been connected by DNA to the remains of another woman found about seven miles away in Nassau County.
