W.W.J.D.? What Would Jesus Do? A question that became very popular in the late 1990s. It was a question that was intended to make people think before speaking or doing something that would be unChrist-like behavior.
It was great to see people at the check-out registers. There would be a problem that was unexpected. Those around, would watch to see how this customer would react, since they would have these letters somewhere on them.
Their responses were very interesting. They wouldn’t get mad or anything. They would only smile, pay for their items, and tell the cashier to “have a blessed day”.
And drivers with a ‘W.W.J.D.’ bumper sticker had everyone watching to see how they would respond to rush hour traffic. The person behind the wheel drove very well and was courteous to others. It seemed that asking ones-self that question was affecting human behavior.
Several months later, its popularity faded. The number of individuals wearing this logo became few. Now when a person in the check-out line with a W.W.J.D. bracelet or drivers with this bumper sticker still on their vehicles, were acting differently.
It was very interesting to see a product that was suppose to make Christians act like Christ, worked. However, it seemed that it didn’t have a long term impact.
It’s sad when people claim to be Christians, yet they do not act like they should. Some asked the question, “does anyone really know how Jesus would act”? The bible tells us that Jesus was kind to and loved everyone. His responses were always in a pleasant tone of voice.
At a business on Archer Road, an employee claimed to be a pastor, yet was mean to people. Many employees asked, “how can you be a pastor and not be nice to people”?. They responded, “the bible doesn’t say I have to be nice”. It appears this individual never read John 13:34.
The bible tells us to be different (Romans 12:2). Jesus said, that just because we live and work with non-believers, we’re not suppose to be like them.
So whether or not, one is wearing merchandise that has the letters W.W.J.D., everyone should try to be nice in their interactions with others. One needs to look before they leap…think before they speak…or perhaps, ask the question, “what would Jesus do?”.
