This week, Weight Watchers announced that they are partnering with Dr. Oz for a $1 million contest prize about getting into shape and transforming your life. On his show Monday, Dr. Mehmet Oz announced the Transformation Nation contest with the $1 million prize.
Dr. Oz is in great shape himself at 51 years old and sets an example of what optimal health should be. Monday, he said that he knows how difficult getting into and staying in great shape can be, and that you have to work at it.
“In fact, the reason some people are thin and stay thin is they’re not working hard at it, they’ve figured out a few simple ways of automating their lives. And that’s the goal, if you want to be able to lose weight and keep it off. It’s not rocket science. It’s simple steps done right every day. And if you don’t love doing it, it’s not easy for you to do, you’re not going to do it,” said Dr. Oz.
“You know how you tell people, “You look like a million bucks!” We’re going to give you a million bucks! Our goal is to reward you for doing the work that’s required to look like a million bucks. So that people can figure out how to make themselves healthier. And at the end of the year, America’s going vote on who gets to win the million dollars.”
“Ask yourself this question: If someone you loved dearly was eating the kinds of thing you’re eating, and doing the things you’re doing to your body, what would you tell them. Usually you would intervene. All I’m asking you to do is do it for yourself,” Dr. Oz said.
There are seven steps to Dr. Oz’s program.
1. TELL A FRIEND
2. CALCULATE YOUR BMI WITH WEIGHT WATCHERS
3. CONNECT WITH YOUR DOCTOR
4. LEARN YOUR FAMILY’S HEALTH HISTORY
5. GET MORE SLEEP
6. ASSESS YOUR STRESS
7. START NEW FITNESS HABITS
Transformation Nation contest
Weight Watchers members must successfully complete all 7 steps of Dr. Oz’s Transformation Nation: Million Dollar You, and weigh-in at a participating Weight Watchers location, and show a 10% or greater weight loss or maintain a healthy BMI.
Studies have shown that people who lose the weight slowly, and exercise and eat less tend to keep the weight off.
Weight Watchers was recently chosen by US News and World Report as the best overall commercial diet because it is based on simply exercising and eating smaller portions. There are no special foods required and dieters can eat whatever they like, but the focus is on eating more fruits, vegetables and protein. Even after they lose the weight, Weight Watchers dieters can continue eating the plan even if they stop going to weekly meetings, or doing Weight Watchers online.
