Show me Der-B-Q; the 2011 South Central Region Playoffs hosted by the Kansas City Roller Warriors begins Friday September 30th, it is the third of four regional playoff tournaments which sends the top three finishers to Denver in November for the WFTDA Championships. Former Cincinnati Rollergirl Trauma who currently skates as a Kansas City All-Star will be competing with her team who sits at #1 in the South Central Region.
The top 10 leagues from the South Central Region take to the track beginning at 10:00 A.M. this Friday with #7 No Coast taking on #10 Omaha. The winner of that bout will advance on to play #2 Texas Friday at 6:00 P.M. The Cincinnati Rollergirls defeated No Coast in Lincoln, NE on August 6th of this year 127-112.
The ten teams playing at South Central Regionals; Show me Der-B-Q are:
1. Kansas City Roller Warriors
2. Texas Rollergirls
3. Nashville Rollergirls
4. Atlanta Rollergirls
5. Houston Roller Derby
6. Tampa Bay Derby Darlins
7. No Coast Derby Girls
8. Green Country Roller Girls
9. Gold Coast Derby Girls
10. Omaha Roller Girls
Those who will advance:
After watching Green Country and Gold Coast duke it out earlier in the day, Kansas City should handle the winner of that bout with little problem to advance. Their next bout will come against Atlanta who they demolished on April 24th 224-73, this moves Kansas City into the Championship Bout on Sunday against Texas. Texas, who after defeating Cincinnati on April 17th has lost eight of their last ten games including a 126 point loss to Bay Area at the Golden Bowl. The final game will be close, but Kansas will come out on top and win the tournament giving Texas second.
The final team to advance is a tougher one to call. Nashville has had a kind of bi-polar season, their first game of 2011 was a loss to Cincinnati on March 26th by 111 points. Their second bout of 2011 was home against Kansas City and they lost by an even larger margin of 120 . However, after that Nashville has fought to a 5-2 record including two very large wins at the Honky Tonk Stomp beating Hard Knox by 164, and then Memphis by 287 points on the same day.
Atlanta sits at 7-7 on the year, but has lost four of their last five games including a 187 point loss to Carolina on September 3rd, and by 287 points to Oly, on June 26th . Even for Oly 287 points is a large spread, in fact that win Oly’s largest margin of victory ever according to Flat Track Stats.
Between the two, Nashville is the team with the momentum and should advance along with Kansas City and Texas to the WFTDA Championships.
