During Halloween celebrations, some people really like to be scared by mummies, walking skeletons, and other representations of ‘living dead people’ as they go through haunted houses. While going through that scary situation only lasts a little while during Halloween, they will be facing a far scarier situation after they die.
In Hebrews 9:27, God says that “it is appointed for men to die once and after that comes judgement.” This means that after people have gone through their life and have died, they will be judged by God according to the laws and principles that are found in His Word, the Bible. Since God created mankind (Genesis 1:27), then He has the right to judge them according to what they have done in their life.
When you stand before God’s judgement throne and He opens the book which show what you have done in your life (Revelation 20:12) and He points out the many times that you have broken His laws and deserve the punishment of death for doing that— what will you say to Him about that?
When God shows you the many times that He tried to get you to ask Him to forgive you for breaking His laws so that He could begin to have a close relationship with you, but you rebelled against that—what will you say to Him about that?
When you won’t be able to properly answer God’s questions, you realize that you are going to face His sentence of being sent to live with the devil in the lake of fire as Revelation 20:12-15 says.
You can avoid going through that very scary situation after you die by doing the following things while you are still living. First, you need to ask God to forgive you for breaking His laws. Next, you need to ask Jesus Christ to be your personal Savior and spiritually apply His sacrificial atonement on the cross to your life.
When you do those things, then God will forgive you for breaking His laws, make you His newly restored creation, and send the Holy Spirit to live inside of you to give you the power and ability to live according to God’s principles that are found in the Bible.
As you daily study God’s Word to learn those principles and talk with Him in prayer, you can develop a close relationship with God which will help you get through the many problems that you will face in your life.
As you develop that close relationship with God, use the power of the Holy Spirit to live according to His principles, have great times worshipping Him in Christian Church services, and have good Christian friends to do fun things with; then you will have more thrills all year around than you used to get being scared at Halloween.
After you have completed your life and have died, and thus face God’s judgement; then you can tell Him that you used to break His laws, but have asked His forgiveness for doing that, accepted Jesus as your Savior, and have lived according to His principles for the rest of your life. Then, you will hear God welcome you into Heaven to live with Him forever!
