Christmas shopping can be fun, but it can also be tiresome and boring. Why not take a break while Christmas shopping and head outdoors for some great winter activities at Jefferson Memorial Forest in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jefferson Memorial Forest hosts its annual ‘Holiday Open House’ at the forest Welcome Center and is normally held on the first Saturday in December. It is a great place to do some Christmas shopping for the outdoor lover on your list. The gift shop has books, toys, hats, shirts, outdoor supplies, and much more. Often, during the holiday event, many items will be on sale and can be picked up at a reasonable price.
Outdoor Winter Activities
It can sometimes be hard to take the kids along when Christmas shopping, but at this holiday event, the kids will have a blast. Before leaving home, pack some warm clothes, gloves, and maybe even some snow boots if the weather is snowy for an adventurous day of shopping and fun. At the gift shop, pick up a trail map and head outdoors for a nice brisk walk. The kids will get to enjoy nature at its finest on some of the park’s 7,000 acres of land while walking off some stored-up energy. If weather permits, build a snowman or make snow angels.
When everyone is tired and cold, make your way back inside the Open House for some hot chocolate, cookies, and apple cider. If you’d prefer, pack a lunch and have a winter picnic on one of the park’s picnic tables. For more information about this holiday event call 502-368-5404.
