Extra-curricular activities today require so much “extra” for both the parent(s) and the child (ren), so why do we want our children to participate? The answer is very simple, to produce the next generation of leaders, movers, and shakers. We want our children to find were they fit in, and help them develop who they are for themselves.
Where do we start, how do we choose what they want to be? As parents we nurture our children, we know their likes and dislikes, and we base our decisions upon these facts. When our child wants to play a sport, or be a ballerina, we do what we can as parents to make that happen. Sometimes the child’s want’s becomes something they want to give up on, they don’t realize the work and effort that goes into the “simple” things in life.
Now for the parent whose child starts and stops extra-curricular activities more often than not, there is so much stress on the parent and the child. All the money being spent, if a no-cost alternative is unavailable can be extremely stressful on a parent in today’s economy. The child then feels the stress from the parents stress, and they may feel that they have done something wrong.
