Cleveland animal lovers and wine enthusiasts can enjoy a unique combination of activities that will make for an interesting day trip to the Yellow Butterfly Winery and the neighboring Seven Pines Alpacas in Newcomerstown, Ohio — both owned by former Cleveland mayor Michael White and his wife, JoAnn. It is approximately a one hour, 50 minute drive from Cleveland.
Yellow Butterfly Winery Ohio’s newest winery (opened in 2010) is located above the Blue Ridge Valley in Tuscarawas County near Ohio’s Amish country. Situated on 30 acres, the Yellow Butterfly Winery includes a vineyard, a wine-making facility and a restaurant. The main facility is located in a bright yellow, 90 year old restored barn.
Visitors can partake of wine tasting (three wine tastes for $1) where they can sample any of the 8 wines (ranging from sweet to dry) that are produced by Yellow Butterfly Winery. Cheese and fruit plates can be purchased for $10. Wines from Yellow Butterfly sell for $8-$15 a bottle. Cases of wine purchased get a 10% discount.
From June- September, Yellow Butterfly offers country-style barbecue dinners (complete with a bottle of wine) on Fridays and Saturdays.
Seven Pines Alpacas Located right next door to the Yellow Butterfly Winery and also owned by Michael and JoAnn White, Seven Pines is a full service alpaca farm that raises, breeds and sells alpacas for clients all over the United States. Visitors to Yellow Butterfly can see the alpacas from the patio or visit the gentle creatures at the Seven Pines Paddock.
The Nook Gift Shop Visitors can purchase a wide variety of handcrafted items created by Amish artisans, wine related items and the largest assortment of alpaca yarn and clothing in Southeast Ohio at The Nook. Over 90% of the Nook’s gift merchandise is handmade.
Fall hours at the Yellow Butterfly winery are 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
