Borzois, Sant Bernards, Chiweenies, Dachshunds, Huskies, Great Pyrenees, Pit Bulls, Chihuahuas, and maybe even a Leonberger are just a few of the breeds of dogs you’ll see at this year’s Woofstock, which is the one event in Wichita each year that goes to the dogs.
This Saturday, Oct. 1, is Woofstock, the annual major fund raiser for the Kansas Humane Society at Sedgwick County Park, 6300 W. 13th St. It has grown over the years, not only in attendance, but also groups and businesses in Wichita that offer dog products and services and area rescues.
Last year, in addition to attracting about 3,000 Wichitans and helping 16 of the adoptable dogs at KHS find a home, attendees had an opportunity to connect with other dog lovers, show off their prized pooches, and help the thousands of animals that go through the doors of the KHS each year.
This year, as part of the event, there is an online auction of goods and services donated by area businesses. The auction will go through Thursday. You can bid on pet services such as grooming and training, family dining, original artworks, and adventures including a hot air balloon ride or DJ for a day. Bid on something you’ll enjoy and help the KHS.
This is one event where your canine companion is welcome, though please, if you know your pooch isn’t well socialized, take proper precautions such as a muzzle.
There’s still time to fund raise as an individual or part of a team for the Woof, Walk & Wag. There are a number of teams formed, and several teams are taking more members. You can also give to individuals already participating through the Woofstock web site.
