WWE Smackdown airs tonight on SyFy 7p C/*pm E with it’s first episode ever taped in the wrestling hot bed of Mexico. The show features a very rare match in WWE but a match beloved in the Lucha Libre loving nation to the south, the all-importnat Mask vs. Mask match. Plus there are several match ups to build hype for this Sunday’s Vengance PPV.
Non-Title Match: Mark Henry vs. John Morrison
This will likely be a squash of match with the World Champ crushing the declining star of Morrison. That does not mean it will be a bore. Morrison’s athleticsm and Henry’s power made for a strong match a few weeks ago on RAW, so expect some action-filled highlights here. Morrison has been the doghouse with WWE since his real life girfriend Melina was released by the company earlier this year and he’s been a losing streak for some time now. There is no to believe he will be victorious here as Henry is days away from a title defense at WWE Vengance on Pay Per View.
Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett
The two NXT Season 1 breakouts face off in a Summerslam rematch. Both men showed they were the cream of the crop on NXT, proving to be the most successful young stars the C level show has produced as a platform for future WWE talent. Yet it seems both have faultered recently in their ascension. This time last year Barrett was the biggest heel on WWE RAW when he lead the Nexus into war with WWE’s main even mega-star John Cena. Now Barrett barely on Smackdown and his second shot at faction, the Corre went no where fast.
Daniel Bryan may have captured the Smackdown Money in the Bank briefcase and promised to cash in at Wresltemania next year, but has been stagnant in the win column since August. With Barrett being victor at Summerslam in August, look for the fighting spirit of D-Bryan to come out on top.
Mask vs. Mask Match: Sin Cara Azul vs. Sin Cara Negro
The Sin Cara situation has been messy one for WWE with two different masked wrestlers who don’t speak much English, claiming to the rightful owner of the Mask. After the clunker of match these two luchadores put on at Hell in a Cell, WWE did improve the intrigue when they had the evil Sin Cara Nego attack Sin Cara Azul this past week on SD. The attack ended with SC Negro removing his black ‘n silver mask to put on the blue ‘n gold mask he stole from the original Sin Cara. In fron the Mexico fans who cheered Sin Cara Azul when he wreslted there as the very popular Mistico, this match should deliver a fantastic show. It will prove that some of Sin Cara’s act is being ‘lost in translation’ with the American wrestling audience.
Non-Title Match: Alberto Del Rio vs. The Big Show
This one is kind of tricky to predict. The returning Big Show needs some momentum to build to a World Title Match with his foe, Marc Henry. Del Rio as the current WWE Champion, is on the ropes and ready to lose his title for second time this year to John Cena at Sunday’s Vengance PPV. Look for this match to end in a schmaze ending of interference by other wrestlers like Cena or Henry, or possibly a countout. Both wrestlers can not suffer a signifcant clean loss on TV right now.
