X Factor auditions are over and the 162 acts who made it through were facing the toughest week of their life, “Boot Camp”. These super star hopefuls were judged on their singing, dancing and overall performance skills. Only 100 out of 162 acts survived the judges scrutiny to advance to the next level of competition.
These 100 acts were split into groups and assigned a song to perform. The song was chosen by X Factor judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid. The performers may or may not know the song, but each group had only 5 hours to memorize and polish said performance. This challenge will cut these 100 acts by 1/3.
What familiar faces made the first cut to join the remaining 100 acts? How did they perform?
14 year-old “rapper” Brian Bradley makes the first cut, despite not participating in the dance aspect of round one, “You don’t see Jay-Z dance. I don’t want to dance”. Perhaps he should have because he forgot the words to the group song. He recovered pretty well but Simon Cowell caught the goof up. Cameras panned toward the judges as they discussed Brian Bradley’s fate and it didn’t look promising. They felt he was too young.
Jazzlyn Little, the 16 year-old high school student who wowed the judges with her amazing voice during the final auditions was still struggling with self confidence. Nerves and self doubt won out. She forgot the words to her group solo and was reduced to tears. Will Jazzlyn make the next cut? It’s hard to say. The judges really like her voice but forgetting the words is a big mistake and confidence is a major part of being a star.
Dexter Haygood, the 49 year old entertainer who was once lead singer for the band “Xavion”, made the cut but his Mick Jagger persona failed to impress the X Factor judges. The four agreed that Haygood was the weakest link in the group. I’m not sure he will make it to the next level, he barely survived auditions. He can thank Simon Cowell for the second chance. I hope he didn’t blow it.
Tiah Tolliver also barely made it through auditions as she caught Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger in a nasty mood. The two had decided they didn’t like her before she even opened her mouth the sing. This time L.A. Reid came to the rescue, giving Tia another chance to sway the women judges. It worked and tonight Tiah gave it her all, impressing both Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Nicole even admitted she was glad she had saved her.
Chris Rene the 28 year-old trash hauler from Santa Cruz, California also made the first cut. His group performance tonight was as riveting as his audition. I am almost certain he will make it through. Tonight, we were given privy to the fact that he has a sister named, Gina Rene, who also auditioned and made the cut as well.
Josh Krajcik, the lovable 30 year-old burrito maker aso made the cut. The voice that this man possesses is unbelievable, and tonight he nailed it. When I listen to him sing I hear nuances of other voices, only better. His voice this evening reminded me of “Meatloaf”, but I could still hear a bit of ‘American Idol’s’, Casey Abrams. Will he make the next cut? Yes. The next one? I’m sure of it. Josh Krajcik will be around for quite some time.
X Factor will wrap up “Boot Camp” on Thursday, October 6, 2011 airing at 8/7c on FOX. The remaining 100 acts will be cut, leaving a total of 32. These 32 acts will be divided into 4 categories. Boys, girls, over 30 and groups. The X Factor judges will learn which group they will mentor.
