Xerath, the Magus Ascendant is the latest champion coming to Riot Games’ League of Legends. An absolute “mage cannon”, Xerath can sacrifice speed and mobility to dish out copious damage at long range. Unlike many other “classical” mage champions, Xerath can essentially turn into an immobile turret and unleash torrential arcane damage while rooted in place. AOE burst damage and the ability to stun round out Xerath’s abilities.
Let’s take a look at Xerath’s skills:
Ascended Form (Passive): Xerath feeds on arcane power, making him increasingly resilient to physical harm. He converts a percentage of his Ability Power into Armor.
Arcanopulse: Fires a long-range beam of energy, dealing magic damage to all targets hit.
Locus of Power: Xerath anchors himself to source of magical power, increasing the range of all spells and granting him bonus % Magic Penetration. Although he is immobilized while Locus of Power is active, his movement speed increases upon disabling the ability.
Mage Chains: Deals magic damage to an enemy and marks them with Unstable Magic. The next spell Xerath strikes this enemy with stuns them.
Arcane Barrage (Ultimate): Calls down a blast of arcane energy, dealing magic damage to all enemies in an area. May be cast up to three times before going on cooldown.
Boasting a completely different playstyle than bear-blasting Annie, fire-flinging Brand, and the one-on-one technician Malzahar, Xerath is able to dish out zone area-of-effect damage while having some crowd control at this disposal as well.
Boosting power using Locus of Power Xerath can rock opposing forces at long range, and then utilize the speed boost to chase them down and stun them after they have been victims of his magical harassment.
Xerath’s passive ability, Locus of Power, and Arcane Barrage work in tandem in team fights allowing Xerath to dish out massive amounts of damage to opponents foolish enough to group up – even if they disperse, this should give your team time to pick off the scattered and disorganized foes.
If you’re looking for a serious ranged caster with a new take on gameplay, Xerath is your go to choice for some hot arcane action and will be coming to League of Legends soon.
